Former Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick has said that he tried to buy big names in the January transfer window but failed to strengthen the English squad.

Rangnick had an unlucky time last season after replacing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in charge of the club from Old Trafford.

The coach of Austria has claimed that he wants to sign some big stars at the end of the year.

Speaking to German newspaper BILD, the 64-year-old revealed the names of the players he asked for as the Red Devils coach.

“It was clear to everyone that there was a need in many areas,” Rangnick initially told Bild.

“That’s why we were already discussing players like Josko Guardiol and Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig. They were realistic names.”

“We also talked about Alvaro Morata, Luis Diaz, Dusan Vlahovic and, as I said, Haaland when they were still on the market.”

“But, the club decided at that time to rebuild the team under the new coach”, concluded the German.
